MERCURY MIRRORS

The mercury mirror is recognizable by its silvered back, its warm reflection and tin particles, which capture the light in an inimitable way. They are very rare because their production was prohibited in 1850. Part of the production consisted in using the mercury when it was warm in order to fix the silvery, which was considered too toxic for the craftsmen.

Mercury mirrors are rare, delicate and very difficult to restore without the proper materials and craftsmanship. Vincent Guerre is constantly in search of raw material predating the 1850’s to add to his stock. He also continues to enhance the technique he invented and is still the only one to master.
